Prepare Your Skin to GLOW: The Importance of Moisturers & Sunscreen

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about the importance of cleansing, using the right serums, and supporting your skin from within. This week, we’re wrapping up the Skin Series with two non-negotiables in any skincare routine: moisturizer and sunscreen.
Moisturizer: The Unsung Hero

Moisturizer isn’t just about making your skin feel soft — it’s about protecting and strengthening your skin barrier. Without it, even the best serums and treatments can’t perform their best.
But here’s the catch: not all skin needs the same type of moisturizer.
Oily or acne-prone skin? Try a lightweight, gel-based formula.
Dry or mature skin? Reach for a rich, nourishing cream.
Combo skin? You may need to mix textures or layer based on your needs.
💡 Tip: Your skin’s needs also change with the seasons. In colder months, you might need a heavier moisturizer, while a lighter formula may work best in the summer.
🌙 Pro Tip: Use a thicker, more hydrating moisturizer at night to help your skin repair while you sleep.

Sunscreen: Your Daily Skin Shield
Even if you don’t plan on spending the day in the sun, your skin is still exposed to UV rays, blue light, and environmental stressors — all of which can speed up aging, pigmentation, and inflammation.
Here’s what to look for:
✅ Choose a sunscreen with zinc & titanium dioxide as the active ingredients. It’s gentle, effective, and creates a physical barrier without harmful chemicals.
🚫 Avoid formulas that include:
Oxybenzone
Octinoxate
Avobenzone
Fragrance or synthetic preservatives
These ingredients can disrupt hormones and irritate sensitive skin.
☀️ Another way to protect your skin? From the inside out.
Internals like Vitamin C help shield your skin from oxidative stress and sun damage naturally. One of my favorite sources is hydroxytyrosol — a powerful antioxidant that not only supports glowing skin, but also offers natural UV protection.
🌿 Layer it right:
Apply a Vitamin C serum first
Follow with your moisturizer
Finish with a zinc-based sunscreen
And yes — even if you’re working from home, your skin is still affected by blue light from your screens. Sunscreen isn’t just for beach days — it’s an everyday essential.
Have acne prone skin? Try my favorite sunscreen. This is one of the few clean options that doesn't make me break out or cause irritation!
Jenn’s Final Thoughts:
We work so hard to erase the damage done to our skin, reverse aging, and clear up breakouts — but we need to do more to protect our skin in the first place!
That’s why I believe a consistent routine is vital to having your best skin ever. Need help curating the perfect routine? Take my Skin Quiz here and let’s personalize your glow.
